My first week in Australia

I just accidentally deleted the first blog post I wrote. Frustrating but maybe it's the universe telling me it was not good enough. I am sat by the window seat on a plane to Sydney. But we are still on the Perth airport tarmac. I still can't believe what's happening is real. I feel as though any moment my mum could wake me up and tell me it's time to get dressed for school. Just yesterday me and my friends were talking about weather we would get the 722 or 752 train to school. Now we are asking eachother about linkedin profiles and university halls. Life moves fast, and sometimes my life feels as though its going at 2x speed. After a week in Perth, I have confirmed that spending time with family is unmatched, cousins are instant close friends and all my relatives are wise advisors who only care about helping me and are happy to see me succeed. With friends I have learnt this is not always the case. However I have been blessed with amazing friends, in quality not quantity. I am sitting next to Red, the lion my best friend in London got me. Not only am I the luckiest girl in the world because of the fabulous people around me, but I also have an aisle to myself!! #wining

Settling down in Sydney

This morning I woke up, on the right side of bed, just on the other side of Australia. When I looked at my phone it was 8 am, but in London it was 11 pm. It is wierd to think that as I wake up and start my day, my parents are going to sleep and my friends are going out.

I am writing this from a shopping mall in Sydney, the sun shining on me, and despite the urbanisity I can still hear the birds chirping. This has become my favourite sound. In london I would listen to music in my headphones to block out the city roar. Now I prefer the tune of the light wind and the song of the birds.

I was asked what do I want to achieve / gain from this year abroad. I was puzzled. I tell my friends that I want to be a wag. This is a joke. ish. I wouldn't complain if an aussie footy player asked me out, but really I think I should aspire for something more fulfilling, like learning to use my mouth and ears in ration - listening twice as much as I Speak.

I am still in disbelief, as though my dog might jump on my bed and wake me up from this dream. But for now I am taking everything in and in awe. I have probably said 'wow' enough times in the last week to set a world record.

Life lessons I have learnt from Aussies

They do things a bit differently down under. At first I raised a brow, seeing a guy in Coles (the Australian Sainsburys) walking around barefoot came as a shock to me but I have now embraced the differences. So here are my freshly collected ways of living that arguably make everyone happier and healthier.

Will I change

Can one change so much in a year? I hope my hair becomes blonder, but I don't know what change my personalities will go through. I say personalities because my personality becomes much less pleasant when I am hangry (hungry and angry).

Why start a blog

Last night I watched a movie with my Nain called Hotel Marigold, and the character played by Dame Judy Dench had a blog. So why shouldn't I. Being creative is where I thrive, through making vlogs and now blogs too. It would be amazing if I could monetise of this creative outlet one day but for now it is just to stay connected to my family as I am  thousands of kilometres away.

My first week in Australia

I am actually writing this in the domestic terminal of Perth airport, about to board my flight to Sydney. I love airports, not just for the toblerones in duty free, the people watching is my favourite thing in the world. The airport attracts all sorts of characters and brings out the worst in a few of them. Once I watched a shouting stand off between a passenger (middle aged man) and airline staff whilst checking in our bags. By the time we were boarding there was a police escort with sed passenger in the back of a blue and white car. Whenever something goes wrong e.g. the flights delayed, I remember the airline staff have it worst. Not only has there schedule been crushed but soon a little bit of there esteem will be too as they are showered in spit by a shouting passenger that can't believe they have to wait another half hour to board the plane.
